Parkinson Society Maritime Region is excited to announce that two new support groups are now meeting to provide support to people living with Parkinson’s disease. The Saint Margaret’s Bay Parkinson’s Support Group meet the second Thursday of each month at the Sobey’s Community room in Tantallon, NS. Group Facilitator Barb Aris started the group in the fall, after recognizing the need for support in the area. If interested, you can contact Barb by phone, (902) 876-0588.
We are also very much excited to announce the formation of the Maritime Region’s first bilingual Chapter: Chapitre de la Region Restigouce Region Chapter, in northern New Brunswick. The group is holding meetings on the third Tuesday of the month at the Sobeys Community Room in Campbellton from 1 to 3pm. The first official meeting will be held on Feb 16. If you have questions for the group, contact President John Aucoin (506) 753-6160.
Everybody deals with a Parkinson's diagnosis in their own way, and while a support group isn’t for everyone, you might find it surprising just how much you can gain from meeting with others and sharing in your similar experiences.
The groups are not intended to be therapy groups, but instead as upbeat gatherings where people share anecdotes, resource information and good humour. Most importantly, they are places where you can be yourself and where you can meet others from the Maritime Parkinson’s family.
